What are you going on about?
The UK’s figures are much worse than Italy‘s and have been for a long time.

All China's fault
WHO helped cover it up
Our figures will prove to be the best in years to come

Who mentioned our figures would be better? I simply said other country's don't record deaths like we do 🤔, and if China and who aren't to blame hina for where it originated and acting slowly and who for not investigating it properly who do we blame for screwing up the world?

You said that in years to come our numbers would look favourable compared to some others. As I said before, you can’t keep blaming the ref for conceding from a corner that shouldn’t have been

The mixed messages are shit but I think it's mainly because the virus is something nobody has experienced before i mean we haven't had a pandemic this bad since what 1918? Governments around the world will learn from this and put in mesaurments to stop it happening again.

Didn’t we run a scenario to see how prepared we were for this, but completely ignore it? This was under prev govt I think. Also a global pandemic is not such a surprise, it’s actually more of a surprise that something like this hasn’t happened before now, at any given time there are all kinds of horrific diseases on the loose or being studied in labs, bottom line is that this was always going to happen sometime.

We've made several plans in recent years, the Influenza Pandemic Preparedness Strategy in 2011, the Health and Social Care Influenza Pandemic Preparedness and Response in 2012 and Pandemic Influenza Response Plan in 2014.

Then there was Cygnus a 3 day exercise in October 2016 to test preparedness. The report on that found severe failings and made over 20 key recommendations including centralising oversight of all agencies, government communications to the public, capacity and staffing in care homes, availability of PPE and availability of ventilators. Many of the recommendations were never implemented.

There was also a scheduled 2019 parliamentary inquiry, 'Biosecurity and Human Health: Preparing for Emerging Infectious Diseases and Bioweapons', that was postponed in order to concentrate on Brexit and then cancelled due to the general election.

Not sure "nobody could have predicted this" really stands up to scrutiny.

There was a US epidemiologist embedded with the Chinese CDC as an 'early warning system' as there was a widespread belief that China wouldn't be open about any emerging issues and would instead downplay their seriousness or even attempt to cover them up all together. Trump pulled funding for that position in July 2019 and the epidemiologist returned to the US 5 months before the first case in China.

On a local level, one of my favourite pubs had an incident recently. Think it's worth sharing as it shows what morons some people are, and how challenging it is in the pub industry just atm!

What a dick. All he’s going to achieve is getting his local shut down.

We need to start bringing charges against these anti mask morons. I guarantee the guy has #KBF in his Twitter profile.

It doesn't say what they did, but it reads a bit like a party were overly touchy feely on meeting one another. Whatever, sounds like the reaction from them was out of proportion to the request to follow the rules.

They've been super-cautious during this too, more than most places. They had a case of Covid among the staff, but it probably shows how cautious they've been that every other staff member tested negative after that.

Really, pubs are having a hard enough time, so I kind of feel the ones playing by the rules need as much support as they can get. I'm not overly comfortable going in, but they do delivery and collection too, so plenty of chance to support them. Then you get morons popping along thinking the world revolves around them. Quite simple really, if you don't like their rules, don't go in - don't go in and then kick off about their rules!

There was a demo in my local town a couple of weeks ago, about 50 people rocked up with banners saying "the media is the virus, no to masks, end lockdown" & trying to harass passers by with leaflets & with their conspiratorial views on COVID. These guys were filthy, to the point where I doubt the virus would want to go near them for fear of catching something even worse. There were a few arrests, and it turns out now that 5 of the protestors & 1 copper is now symptomatic & positive, god knows who else has it without realising after going near them.

I get that there are conspiracies around, and its understandable to question everything in this day and age, but surely its got to the point now with COVID where its beyond any doubt that its real & whatever you think of the govt or authorities, if you don't take precautions you're putting yourself & others at huge risk? I am struggling to empathise with the kind of mind that thinks its all made up purely to restrict & control people.

On a purely basic level, I get annoyed (more ;) annoyed) at the self-centredness. Now, I'll accept I'm (over?) cautious but, you can see I'm cautious, do you have to go and sanitise your hands at the station immediately next to me when entering the shop while I'm stood wiping down my trolley? Do you have to push past me after that to save that 30 seconds? Do you then have to laugh at me when I say I'll just be a second, then I'll be out of their way? I'm trying to be helpful!

Now you can think I'm being overly cautious in not allowing you to invade my personal space but... I waited a good five minutes for the elderly couple in front of me to finish up before I went in, because it was common courtesy. Nothing to do with a virus that - it didn't hurt me to give a little bit of consideration to somebody whose world view was slightly different to mine and, likewise, the same with the couple behind me. They'd have got in quickly enough and if they didn't want to queue, get there earlier!

The people who think it's a hoax still, do they think the people getting sick and dying are just really committed to a lie?

They don’t think anyone’s dying cos they don’t know anyone who is. And “they” are putting down corona as cause of death when really it’s flu or something.

I have a COVID denier mate. Heard it all first hand. Even people he’s known for decades telling him theyve seen it doesn’t trump Free Speech Derek on YouTube. Sad to see.

These type of fucking idiots are going to bring down civilisation.
I'm convinced it's a type of denial. They know these Muppets they listen to are fucking idiots but it's easier than confronting the realities of the world.

In fairness when so many get it with no symptoms, which is freakishly unusual for a virus, it’s sort of understandable to see complacency.

I think some people are really susceptible to some stuff. Same guy went down a Tommy Robinson hole a year or two back. Came out, said how stupid he was and how unhappy it made him. Now here he is again.

Looking at my Facebook wall it’s the same people going on about Chemtrails and vaccines before jumping on this. Generally don’t trust the government, don’t trust modern medicine.

No sorry. It’s not understandable to sit at a BBQ and tell NHS and care workers they’re lying and someone else that their gran didn’t die of corona. I know you’ve got your issues but this is different level.

Whilst I agree you've gotta be a special kind of idiot to think its all a hoax, you've also gotta be naïve in the extreme to not realise the control & power grabbed by governments around the world during this pandemic will not be rescinded.....dangerous times indeed.

Manners cost nothing, but there are always gonna be selfish impatient cunts who believe they're the only ones that matter.

On a flip side, I had a rather unpleasant exchange with a grumpy couple who tutted & scowled at my kids over the weekend. My kids passed by this couple...maybe a little closer than the recommended 2 metres, but certainly did not invade their personal space.....and we were outside in the fresh air. The woman in particular was unnecessarily aggressive towards my youngest, so I pointed out that if she & her henpecked husband were THAT paranoid about the virus, perhaps they should re-think visiting a busy National Trust cafe on a sunny day in lake district and maybe go somewhere less crowded.

See, that's exactly why I avoid places with children ;) utterly naive to expect them to social distance!

lol, my family laugh at me as its becoming a weekly occurrence for me to nearly blow my top at someone- whether its someone attempting to push past rudely in a supermarket or someone who thinks they're more important than everyone else giving needlessly filthy looks & muttering comments to anyone who gets within 20 feet of them, even though the 'offender' is clearly being very careful. They're invariably older, I should just smile sweetly & carry on but I can't.

What I don't really get with the covid deniers is how do they think someone has managed to get every government in the world, every public health service, and the vast majority of medical professionals and scientists to agree to this plan?

That's even before you consider what the purpose of it is and what do they think is really causing all the excess deaths?

I like a conspiracy theory as much as the next person but this doesn't stand up to the slightest bit of scrutiny.

Came across some mad mothers movement the other day saying they will not get there kids vaccinated against covid if a vaccine becomes available.

I appreciate kids probably won't be the target group but why the fu k would you be so belligerent where your own childs health is concerned?

Get used to this for a while as the restrictions aren't going to slow anything quickly and the government aren't willing to tighten them.

Yep 76 deaths. The graph on infections is ahead of the worst case put forward by vallance the other week. Infections doubling every 7 days
So at that rate we’ll be getting 50/60K cases a day before the kids break up for half term.

Back when all this kicked off, I called us being let out for summer, and slammed shut about the last week of October.

I still reckon that's about right, although it could well be earlier at this rate...
