Says it all when you realise Alec Baldwin's killed more people than this Moronic variant
Fuck me, let's all queue up for a vaccine to protect us against Alec Baldwin!!!
Doesn't matter if its a DNA mutated spike protein that's had zero long term testing, i demand to have it now!!!

you'd just find some way of discrediting it.
If it's something that can be discredited, why wouldn't you?

Of course, you're not linking anything for it to be discredited, so we can only assume it's the ramblings of a diseased mind...

Its a mess. I've no idea why I could go online and make an appointment for a weeks time, pre-pandemic, but now I can't go online and book a phone appointment, or even book one for later this week if I speak to someone at the surgery. If you phone up and they've got no appointments left today you're told to phone again tomorrow! Also the online Patient Access system my surgery uses for appointments, repeat prescriptions etc increasingly pushes you to private providers for things that are available on the NHS.

The whole system needs looking at. Why have we not got one system that covers the whole country that every GP uses? Surely there would be a huge economy of scale there. When you think about it the system is a joke, every time I got to the hospital I have to fill out a paper form with my medical history, medications etc. How is that not available at the touch of a button? When I was told to go straight to the hospital by the doctor I was given a letter to take with me as there was no other way of letting the hospital know why I was attending!

It's a nightmare trying to get an appointment and pretty dangerous. However when it comes to the booster and jabs they get in touch without me needing to hold for ages every morning. Funny that.

As it stands, I'd get more priority getting a booster than if I had a lump on my bollock.

Does everyone with an alternative view to you automatically have to have a diseased mind?

Or does saying that make you feel better, in your own choice to have the vaccine?

So you can cracking on with what exactly?
What is not having a booster going to stop you doing?
Crack on with dying from my third jab according to you. If it happens I'll leave you my login details in my will. I just have 2 rules.. 1. Never like a post from O'Day 2. Don't get too involved in the covid threa... oh

Anyway... this thread is getting populated by lunatics

I'll explain to you critical thinking.

It involves actually backing up what you say with evidence, and letting it be tested, rather than spouting disruptive, mindless bollocks, that could potentially have an adverse affct on the health on the country because you're a bit of a moron.

Put up, or shut up.

Think you're mixing up two sets of figures. The ones you see on the news every day are the 'deaths within 28 days of a positive test' so will include some people who didn't die of covid but with it while excluding some who died of covid but more than 28 days after their test.

There's then the ONS figures which go off cause of death listed on the death certificate.

We use the first set of figures as the second set take months to come out. Its not perfect but given the sample size is more than good enough to look at trends.

The latest ONS figures, released on 7th December, are the provisional figures for deaths up to 19th November, we can't wait that long for data before making any decisions. We've already got weeks of lag between infection > cases > hospitalisations > deaths.

Yep, and I worry that people who try to play it down are either being selfish or deliberately missing the point.

The problem is that some people don't seem to see that that even very small proportions of very big numbers, are in themselves pretty big numbers.

Even if Omicron is less deadly than other variants, it's replicating far faster. Every indication is that there will be millions infected in a fairly short space of time.

Even if a small proportion of those need hospital treatment, that will be tens of thousands of extra admissions.

The NHS, for anyone who hasn't noticed, is already on its knees.

People are waiting hours for ambulances, and then even longer in ambulances outside hospitals to be admitted.

Anything any of us can do to reduce this pressure, is has to be sensible. By definition, no one plans to need an emergency ambulance, it could happen to any of us or our families.

And all of the evidence suggests that taking simple precautions now (wearing masks, social distancing where possible, vaccination and boosters), will mean less drastic steps later. And lives saved of course, from Covid itself and the myriad other medical emergencies that people can suffer from.

To me this is so incontrovertible and relatively trivial as to need no great discussion.

Why people need to make stuff up or try to find edge-case justifications for not taking reasonable precautions is completely beyond me. Is it stupidity, or is it selfishness, I'm really not quite sure...

We moved in the summer and it feels like our new doctors is a big upgrade, particularly with the delays in everything else at the moment. Got my daughter in same day, had a doctor call me back within an hour on a different occasion. All minor stuff rather than anything in urgent need, makes me hopeful that if anything were to occur we're in a good position. It's definitely a worry when you hear about cancer patients being sidelined, who knows what else is being missed in people not daring to brave a hospital visit too

I’ve done an Otis and managed to book my booster both online and at my GP. Going to cancel the online one now 🤦‍♂️

This is also part of the issue:

He clearly didn't say somebody has died from it, he said "with it".

This is a massive part of the issue. The scaremongering is fairly obvious and I doubt much of the media will ask questions before whipping things up.

Just enough information was given to get it going originally though.

"What parties at Downing Street?" ;)

Let's be honest, linking anything would be a pointless exercise for you wouldn't it, you'd just find some way of discrediting it.

You need to discredit it because you've had the vaccines and you can't live with the thought that you may have issues down the line as a result.

If you were 100% happy you wouldn't need to be so versiferous in an argument that your trying to convince yourself is BS.

As I've said on numerous occasions now, just sit tight and the truth will start to come out.
If you can't wait, then do your own research. It's not hard to find.

That's bollocks. You find something and link to it, and if I'm wrong I'll put my hands up.

The truth is that you can't, because there really isn't anything. You are literally making stuff up or relying on twitter.

I wouldn't mind if it was football, but this is serious and dangerous because there are so many idiots like you who believe it.

So, again, you do your research. I've linked to some of mine.

You've made the claim, either be man enough to back it up, or accept that you might just be wrong on this.

A few days after I had my booster I got a text invite from the GP to book. I'm guessing there's just a customary delay in the records being updated and not my initial suspicion that they want me to be extra protected because I'm bloody great

What issue, Nick?

Do you think there's a conspiracy here to overstate Covid impacts?

If so, to who's benefit is it?

There was similar the other day. Modelling was done for various scenarios as so much is unknown with the variant but the media all went with the worse case scenario.

The issue is how things are spun.

Johnson clearly and carefully said somebody had died "with" it, not from it or because of it. People are in hospital "with it".

Then within a couple of hours you get the headlines like that where a word changes from "with" to "from"... It's not a conspiracy to point that out.

It clearly benefits the govt at the minute to not have any attention on them. It also benefits the media, they get shit loads of content all day every day without much effort.

No you are right, some of the newspapers are ghouls. It's what sells I suppose.

Exactly, a massive massive issue (not just with COVID).

People who have news apps installed will have received a notification to their phone with "Boris Johnson reveals first Briton has died from Omicron".

Will any of the media stop to actually question if it was from it? How old were they? Vaccinated or not? Any other conditions? Course they won't.

Mate, I've got no time for this Government, but underplaying the seriousness of what we're facing isn't smart either.

We're in a bad place right now, with every indication that it's going to get worse if we aren't a bit more careful.

This government has consistently been behind the curve up until now, and the continual muddied messaging has likely cost thousands of lives, if not more.

I'm not sure that making things more opaque or suggesting media conspiracies is entirely helpful.

Worrying people into behaving slightly more sensibly may not be an entirely bad approach, fwiw, it certainly had an impact on the behaviour around AIDS in the 80s. Of course there was no Twitter or Facebook in those days to tell people that it was all a government myth.

I'm by no means saying it's a myth or it's a GPS chip or anything like that.

This recent issue is very convenient for particular people though and it was very carefully worded to just say "somebody had died with it" which will now give the media a few days of content to get the clicks rather than anything about Downing Street raves.

It's not a conspiracy to suggest the media will benefit from it, it's pretty obvious that they can and will. Compare how much they would make from "Man dies from Cancer but had omicron in his system" (IF that was the case) to "Man dies from Omicron".

When somebody gets an alert to their phone saying "somebody has died from it", it's pretty misleading and a play on words and is really inciting fear.

What I don't get is how the government and boris seem to only tell the truth when it comes to this?

It's turned out they have mates with PPE contracts making millions, they have all been having parties and getting models way out.

Yet when it comes to COVID and a Vaccine they must be telling the truth completely and are not trying to cover up the damning stuff about them at all.

It is simple distraction, it's no different to when SISU would love the Trust asking silly stuff as then people would argue about how they aren't buying Ronaldo or they are taking billions from the club. It stops people discussing or getting too close to the actual issues.

It's not much different now all the talk is about who is going to wear a mask, who is going to get a booster and how everybody is selfish. What parties? What PPE contracts?

I'm pretty sure if a couple of years ago you had said Hancock was involved with a mate who was getting millions for PPE you would be called a crackpot.....

It is the same origins that the ´lockdown lovers´ tagline comes from. You will notice that in wider society and on here, there are some people that will just try and be as negative as possible when it comes to Covid. They sit on the side of caution whilst trying to make other people feel bad for trying to get on with their lives, even if they are still following the rules. So yes, even if they think Boris is a lying twat, when it comes to the pandemic, some things will just be accepted without question.

Sure, there are real anti-vaxxers, but the majority of people are pretty normal. Some of them are getting put in with the former because of people who want to be like them and fear the virus on an extremely unhealthy level. There might be reasons for it such as personal circumstances, but it is getting pretty tiring when you want to discuss the facts and it is difficult to do so without it becoming a shit show.

I posted a link showing how little Covid kills younger people, and everyone who usually looks at the negatives completely skirted it apart from one person who then said ´yeah but what about hospitalisations´. That is not a healthy mindset.

Can someone answer me why we get told we are following the sciences yet we are not following what the South African scientist who discovered Omicron says, Same with WHO and EMA . This is SA's current case fertility rate

Because some people only want to pick and choose when to follow the science. There have been many examples of it throughout the pandemic, which is another reason why trust is being lost in those who hold power.

I'm pinning all my hopes on the South African lads being correct about it, we're still obviously in the wait and see stage but there's been no confirmed horror that was already there by now with the Delta one tearing its way through India

The thread you linked gives the answer in part:

The 'restrictions' (in reality, nothing really) are to slow the spread. It turns out to be highly effective at spreading, which is what they're concerned about, in that even if it is indeed milder, if it takes over incredibly quickly, then that in itself could overwhelm the health service.

As such, they're also fast-tracking the booster programme, so as much protection as possible is there, so in an ideal world they don't have to introduce any noticable restrictions, as it can then spread with limited consequence. That last part, we wait to find out...

Much of it is pre-emptive. I'm not going to criticise them for that, because had they been more proactive *last* Christmas, we may well not have had such a long lockdown after it.

It's already tearing through the UK though and no doubt it will ramp up.

So lots of Coulds and maybes to maybe save the NHS who in turn isn't saving anyone as Javid just cancelled anything non urgent.

South Africa have a 30% vaccine rate and appear to be doing better than us without a massive booster program or even vaccine program.

It appears the only winner hear is Pfizer's share holders.
