Out of interest why do you think Scotland and Wales have had very little differences in COVID stats vs the U.K. despite a more stringent approach in that aspect

Regulations make little difference to behaviour TBF. The science is clear on whether they work.

Best case scenarios I guess? Wouldn't account for the amount of people who wear them incorrectly or ones that have been stuffed in pockets for days on end and worn multiple times etc.

Yeah that is going to have an impact; the FFP2 masks are only supposed to be worn for 8 hours before being changed.

A bit of that though a lot of the research is real world case studies. It’s a scale isn’t it from shitty cheesecloth masks stuffed in pockets to full on N95s or whatever. Any mask is better than no mask, not all masks are equal sort of thing.

Glad restrictions are being dropped tbh, can't see anything awful happening now, worst of the pandemic is over and we're now endemic just waiting for EU to drop their rules now.

Also can get my 3 vaccine in about 4 weeks time :)

I don't have an issue with the government ending the coronavirus restrictions, I think that's fine and it isn't reasonable to criminalise ordinary activities in the context of wide vaccine take up.

That said, the dropping of day 1 sick pay entitlement to discourage people covid +ve turning up to work is wrong.

So we should be more like the Germans and stay at home if we are sick?? In Germany statuary sick pay is 100% of your wage for 6 weeks, in this country it’s £97 a week if I’ve read it correctly for up to 28 weeks.

And then they wonder why people go to work when they are poorly , if you want us to act like the Germans start paying us like the Germans you bumbling clueless fucking buffoon 🖕🏼

Watching Whitty & Vallance seems pretty clear they don't agree with Johnson's decision. We literally had Johnson saying no need to isolate anymore followed by Whitty saying to still isolate!

Even Johnson himself said just yesterday we shouldn't throw caution to the wind on Covid. So what is ending all restrictions, especially the need to isolate after a positive test, if not throwing caution to the wind?

It's got nothing to do with the science and everything to do with keeping the nutters happy, because at the moment they're keeping him in his job.

Even though I have kids every cold and illness I’ve had in about the last ten years I’ve caught at work. Always from the same person too. Unlike them though I have asthma so if I get a cold especially a chest cold it floors me and him not taking a couple of days off has landed me with a week off work in the past.

You're right. SSP

Germany
100% of your wage first 6 weeks
50% of your wage for 84 weeks

UK
£96.35 per week for 28 weeks.

It’s not like there is anyone in Government with the intellect to see the connection between looking after your staff when they are poorly or in need and increased levels of productivity….

Ending restrictions while infections are still high is fucking stupid and yes it was clear Witty and Vallance agree it is fucking stupid.

Their contempt for the working man is well documented.
Unfortunately we now have a Labour leader who appears to be cut from the same cloth.

But we all know the working man is lazy and you can't give them help or they'll bleed you dry. Tough love, that's what's needed! People perform at their best when they're desperate.

Just last week Steven Barclay, the new Head of Staff, said

he is taking a close look at where he can cut the size of the state... Now, it is a priority to restore a smaller state – both financially and in taking a step back from people’s lives. It’s time to return to a more enabling approach. To trust the people, return power to communities, and free up business to deliver.

Or, in layman's terms, cutting back services to let businesses have tax breaks. He even uses the term 'enabling', as if giving people less makes them more likely to succeed. If only they hadn't wasted billions giving their mates contracts for PPE that didn't work or a Test and Trace system that was a load of horseshit.

They're utter lunatics. If people who haven't earned their living should be given very little as it makes you a more productive person you'd think they'd be all for getting rid of the hereditary system and IHT...

What is the criteria to claim sick pay in Germany? If full for 6 weeks then there must be a stringent process to confirm you are actually sick rather than claiming to be from a sniffle or faking mental health issues

I can't help but feel people in the UK would wrongly take the piss. I agree it should be much higher than it is but you would want something in place to confirm one is actually sick

Ending restrictions while infections are still high is fucking stupid and yes it was clear Witty and Vallance agree it is fucking stupid.

They could’ve resigned if they thought it was that bad an idea ?! I honestly think they have brought into the main parts of the plan but obviously want people to remain vigilant and stay at home if they’re ill, ensure ONS sample testing continued and that testing could be ramped back up again if necessary

If those things have been secured I agree with most of the actions but not the end of SSP….although not sure how people will know if they’ve got covid if there’s no testing ?! Should’ve probably phased that out later even though you’d hope most employers will support employees anyway

There’s been plenty of people talking about the waste of money track, test and trace has been. I read it cost £2bn last month. Yet same people are now complaining about winding this down ?!

We’re ultimately removing not staying at home as a criminal act which is correct if it’s less dangerous for nearly everyone. LFTs (for what they’re worth) are still available for elderly, care settings etc and I read maybe £20 per box for everyone else. ONS surveillance is continuing.

Without coming out and stating it, I’d imagine the underlying strategy will be same as last summer ie let it circulate a bit more when immunity from severe illness is high and nhs is under less pressure. If you do this and everyone’s staying it home for a week when they’re not even ill it wouldn’t make sense. Only time will tell if it’s the correct strategy, last summers call to end restrictions, against massive opposition, was proven to be ok in the end and probably even helped us over the winter months

Edit - I’ll reserve right to alter view if numbers/hospitalisations are high end of next month when reduction in most measures start to kick in ! 😊

Bit depressed about the war, so I thought I'd finish my dinner time reading by catching up on the old covid.....

...Turns out that despite the huge spike in cases in Dec & early January, Excess deaths in the UK remain negative so far in 2022.....

I know its a limited snapshot, but thats less people dying than would normally be expected in the same period before covid leaked out of the wuhan lab was a thing...

So some light at the end of a tunnel......lets just hope that light is not a nuclear meltdown.....

The 'state of emergency' is ending in Italy at the end of this month with most restrictions expected to be removed by Easter, hopefully. Goes to show that amazingly restrictions weren't part of some weird global agenda and were actually because of a pandemic.

Amazing isn't it that it seemed to disappear as soon as the war started.

Shows just how much shit the media whip up
