It's the foundation of the whole thing. Loud, angry, rude, don't engage. O'Reilly and co. used it as their playbook since Bush. You can't lose an argument if you don't have one. Just say things. People respond positively to it and they know that. Gove, Cummings and co. are from the same school.

Cummings was essentially Musk - even sent the exact same messages when asking for people to join his team. I don't pretend to know exactly why it's not been as successful here - maybe literacy rates etc. are just high enough vs. the US for folks to see through it. F*cking scary all the same.

Because then they'd have to justify their position and on any logical, rational level they can't. So just shout and abuse until they go away.

Not sure if the anger is because they realise they're talking bullshit and are angry that people notice and are willing to stand up to them, or whether it's because they can't see that they're wrong and are frustrated that other people have a different view.

Probably a bit of both depending on the individual.

Trump's playbook was basically taken from his lawyer Cohn when Trump and his father were facing criticism and legal proceedings years ago.

Just attack whoever is accusing you. Never back down, never admit anything, never say sorry. Just attack. And sadly that does seem to be the way of the rich and successful.
