I'm not sure that O'Hare comes into that category.

People are forgetting a few things, then. He's given us some huge moments and memories that are a big part of where we are right now.

Played a big role vs. Wolves, Man Utd, Leicester which we'll all remember and which raised the profile of the club a sh*tload.

Had a good season before his injury - look at Vik's goal compilation if you need a reminder - which set us up for the season that followed.

I'm not advocating giving him a guard of honour when he plays against us but FFS, some of the history editing I'm reading is a bit pathetic.

He also was unfit for 18 months and left at the first opportunity he got afterwards

or massively unlucky with a horrible injury, before which he was probably the fittest and most durable player in the squad. 'Unfit' - have a f*cking day off.

Edit: are we gonna pretend he didn't finish a game with his head split open pissing blood? so much 'she wasn't that fit anyway!' going on here it's tragic.

Mark McNulty, Doyle, Bigi etc are players that were never really good enough to get us to the premier league but in the league that we were in they played their part in helping move us up a rung of the ladder. For that reason they will be remembered for their influence in helping getting us to where we are now.
I'm not sure that O'Hare comes into that category. He's technically a better player than any player we had before we gained promotion to the championship but his contribution to our continued success wasn't enduring enough. He needed a other season and decided against it. For that reason, despite his rapport with singers' corner, he'll never be particularly remembered as someone who made any particular contribution to our promotion, should that happen..

I'm very enthused about our signing Rudoni, but I don't think there was room in the team for him and O'Hare, so the time appears to have been right for O'Hare to leave, given we hope to have signed a better and younger prospect. It's also a shame we couldn't of got a transfer fee for him, but its nevertheless ridiculous to downplay his part in our resurgence.

Not quite sure how Bigi warrants a mention, but however important Doyle and McNulty were in helping us out of League 2, O'Hare was important to not only lifting us from League 1, but then establishing us in the Championship. He was crucial to the high press game which then served us so well before his injury. If he had been available to us in the play off final, he would arguably also have made the difference in getting us over the line at that time.

I therefore think he will be recognised for that contribution in due course, and once the bruised feelings of some of our fans have dissipated, but its up to others to now take on that baton to get us promoted to the PL, and to take that glory with it.

He played a huge part in our promotion to the Championship and was our player of the year in our first year up.

He's played a big part in where we are now. To imply otherwise is sulky revisionism.

I'd argue that really there are also fans who have made him out to be kevin de bruyne , he's got less than 40 goal contributions in 5 years

There is definitely some of that going on, but it isn’t unfair to say that our run to the playoff final was mostly done in his absence and aside from a few months last season his form was poor.

Nobody is taking the ‘not that fit anyway’ lines with Gyökeres who let’s be honest was probably the best player we’ve had since 2001.

He always worked hard , which was important to us as the underdog rising .. but let's not pretend his output goals wise wasn't shite and his assists not much better

He'll be forgotten by the end of August.

I can see why he was popular. I liked him and think he's better than Kasey Palmer, but I do think Rudoni could be a significant upgrade. I'm not just saying that either, I've been banging the Rudoni drum for a long time and I'm delighted we've got him.

Agree with this but he’s left the building for a Yornshire club that is as bleak as Boldricks gusset . I won’t boo him , I just feel sorry for him , he obviously has a issue with common sense and ambition.

... because they thought they had a shot at O'Hare. He was short, a bit weird looking, sounded a bit thick. Vik was always out of their league and they knew it.

Agreed. Equally, COH has been overrated sections of the support. His impact past February wasn’t where you’d expect a ‘premiership quality’ player to be at. Yet, I’m in two minds on whether that because he didn’t have a full preseason or not.

There’s a reason Prem teams passed on him; question marks over his longer term fitness (still in the critical 12-18 months post ACL recovery) and ability to dominate games with more G/As.

We’ve moved on and in Rudoni, potentially a player who could surpass our old cult hero.

Maybe he’s just a realist and understands his first team minutes would have been limited or injury dependent.

Most players want to play rather than bench warm, he’s obviously going to give it some bravado and try to spin it as a good move, though we can all see through this.

It is what it is, and we now have better options.

COH suffered serious injury doing his job for the club
I can never understand why some fans then expect the player to be grateful for being paid during the course of their contract while they are out of action as a result
Putting aside the pain and discomfort of the injury, subsequent operation and rehab players talk of the despair they feel in such circumstances
He also missed out on the chance of a PL contract as a result - for which we would have also received a substantial transfer fee
The whole thing was very sad

Not many people get a year off work on full pay for work related illness TBF

More seriously, he was a very good player for us and I'm sorry that he has left us.

That said, it's not the end of the world and I think Rudoni will be at least as good if not better. Hamer was probably a bigger loss.

We just need another two or three signings and we will be well set up for another push for the top six. I fear that automatic promotion could just be beyond us but with a good start and if we can avoid serious injuries to our key players it's possible.

Not really off work when the player is in every day doing rehab

Well it is. We don’t pay him for rehab. Not many places where your work will pay for your rehab either TBH.

Sorry BD you won’t get me feeling sorry for cocky 20-something millionaires. Not in this economy.
