Won't happen though. And still enough defend them.

I mean, even if you support the rest of what they've done, and their philosophy, the neglect they've shown since this all kicked off, along with the corruption and utter lack of control, is inexcusable.

They did an article in Redcar recently where voters seemed more willing to give Johnson the benefit of the doubt on his bullshit promises because of Covid. I know you're being polite Starmer but they really are fucking stupid

Also they don't want people to refer to it as a lockdown so watch out for many ministers saying "tough new national measures"

Insanity keeping schools open under such circumstances

Exactly, we and other countries either want to stem the transmission or not. No innovative thinking here or across the world (or at least Europe). At least Secondary schools (bit late for unis) moved to online learning, which would allow parents to still work for example.

The whole of Europe all knew a second wave was coming and everyone has dealt with it as poorly as each other. This isn’t a U.K. issue (look at case numbers - Belgium, Holland, Germany, Italy, Spain etc)

I still think we’re jumping the gun looking at the confirmed cases and looking at the rate reduction of areas in T3 (give it a chance !) but I’m sure government is furnished with far more info than me so their call. The public won’t follow these rules anywhere near what they did with the first lockdown though...but the government will know this, it’s all percentages

Ps having said all that, these are unprecedented times with everyone feeling their way through this mess. I’m not knocking the scientists or governments, ultimately I honestly believe they are all trying to do their best.

he's ahead in the polls and that bbc article was heavily bias. I know someone who worked on it.

The government's best isn't good enough if that's the case. So they should be binned off and Johnson should face a criminal inquiry

Pathetic,it is. Just risks this being far longer than a month... and potentnially having to shut them down, anyway!

I mean, this ends at just about the stage when universities close for Christmas anyway, so we seem determined to keep some circulation going through some paths, at some point!

a lot of this is non sensical and counter intuitive (I’m not defending the government by the way, I’m just saying why the fuck is everyone doing the same if it’s as severe a situation as suggested/it looks)

It seems the current mantra is keep schools open - it's the new eat out to help out. We have a knack of following, not leading, recently (so much for taking back control!) so I'd disregard what we do as we seem determined to turn up behind everyone else.

I hve no clue why Germany and France (in particular) proceed with that, though!

So should most leaders across the world then - stop talking nonsense

Just been announced it’s not going to happen any time soon. Not before 6pm and not likely even then

What the hell is happening?

What’s not happening?

Trump, Johnson, Bolsonairo are the obvious contenders for various reasons. Gross incompetence is the bare minimum they should be in the dock for. Number one death toll on the continent he shouldn't even be in office still

how reassuring that the mob who are charged with guiding us through the pandemic and brexit can't organise a press conference.
Probably drawing up a 10 billion pound contract for one of their mates to organise it for them.

It’s childish - Europe are keeping schools open in the main, they have locked down far later this time with regard to the peak as they were ahead of us, Sweden have hardly locked down at all and their trend is very similar to others. Belgium death toll per head must be worse and many others it’s borderline.

This thread is embarrassing really

Why are you defending this? Clearly we are one of the worst countries in the world. Not the worst but one of them. Also leaking stories to the press

Is grendel just being daft? The press conference at 4 Grendel put back till 5 and now will be 6 but possibly not even then.

If it’s so clear what is going to take place what’s the delay? I wonder if he’s resigning or some of his team are? Rishi sunak??

They has a cabinet meeting and are agreeing final content - what’s the big deal we know what is in it anyway - ddi you honestly think most people care?

he'll also want to avoid any phrases used by Starmer when he said in the commons that we should have a 'circuit break lockdown'.
He's going to have to use some spectacular linguistic gymnastics for this one.

Other countries doing the wrong thing doesn't make it OK for us to be wrong as well, you do realise that?

Wow seriously you don’t think most people care?????

I think most people couldn’t care less when the urea conference is and the only concern if it’s delayed is if it stops a live screening of Strictly Come Dancing or interrupts the football in the pub

There is no attention on this thread. It’s been reduced to a handful of posters making absurd comments - everyone else has switched off - I’ll sign off again now

You think the government announcing a press conference at 4 then pushing it back to 5 and then saying nothing before 6 and then maybe not tonight. What do you think is happening? Do you not think there are conversations happening? Why the delay? It’s quite interesting but it’s also bizarre
