it was a great effort to get Nightingale up and running, and it's great news that we may not have to use it. But it just means that people are dying in their thousands, just not as many thousands as we thought they might. Not really a goods news story!

Depends on your viewpoint I guess mate ! I see that as potentially thousands of lives that could’ve been seriously ill/died that haven’t.

Id definitely still argue that the negative headline/story run by The guardian and the Mail (potentially others) was in my view unnecessary

Trump’s press briefings are actually insane. I genuinely find it hard to believe any sane person would actually vote for him. What’s with the strange low and soft patronising voice he does when someone criticised him all about?!

That's why it's the way he goes about it. It usually helps to give them a few seconds to reply before he starts shouting over them or asking people who aren't responsible for testing.

Of course, ask questions but it's asking the right person the right way.

The issue is that he gets people lapping it up and making him a hero, the same as when he was going off about how everybody going to the pub is an idiot while he still had a makeup team looking after him in the mornings.

Will be interesting to see if he says much about people gathering on the bridge and all of the forgetting of social distancing on Thursdays, I doubt he will though because it doesn't get everybody thinking the world is about to end.

His whole agenda has been to get people worried and in a frenzy.

he's only resorted to shouting over them when they've repeatedly refused to answer a simple question or continually answered the wrong question. I know becasue I've watched it most mornings unfortunaltey!
Ridiculous to say his whole agenda is to get people worked up, if the government issue statements giving deadlines and they fail to meet them they need calling out, that's what journalism is. I think people have lost sight of that given the easy ride they get from the likes of Kussenberg.

And he's repeatedly called people out for gathering when they shouldn't including those on Westminster bridge but if you think that is the same level of issue as mismanaging this crisis you're mistaken.

I say this as someone who is no fan of Morgan, (I was banned from Twitter because of him!)

From what I understand they were turned away due to a lack of staff. Why send patients there if there was no need to? It was a great achievement to get them built and great we didn't go over capacity but something seems to have gone wrong with the logistics/planning since then.

Agree that there must’ve been an error to send them there but if you think about it youre not going to have a load of specialist ICU nurses just waiting around for potential overflow patients to come to the nightingale. They are likely to have to be called in or deployed from other hospitals

Im not doubting it happened but for me it was a relatively minor negative with a far stronger positive underlying story. Maybe that’s just how I view stuff though

I wasn't comparing the bridge to the government but more how he was witchhunting somebody for going for a pint. He was trying to push mass hysteria from the start, again while he still had a makeup artist looking after him.....

I watched one the other morning and he was straight in shouting before they could give him an answer. It would be annoying at the best of times but over videolink it's even harder. The woman who had the lag was a good example.

I don't doubt that MPs are slimey pricks, the way he goes about things to try and get hero status isn't really the right way.

To fp and Steve's point in the HMRC thread media has made suggestion that Andrew Landsley initiated changes that have impacted areas of response.

the lag issue has been happening loads. Happening regularly on 5Live when people are just talking, they were saying it was something to do with the lines they were using which they wouldn't normally use.
I think Morgan has been great throughout this.
At the end of the day, if he asks you how many people have been tested and you answer him he doesn't need to keep asking.
If you hit the targets you yourself set, he doesn't need to keep calling you out. If the government had hit their stated targets on PPE and testing no one would be able to take them to task and that's the big story in all of this, their continued failure.

Must admit, I haven't seen the one about the asking about test numbers.

The issue I have is more his attitude and demeanour towards them, granted I am not an MP and wouldn't be one but if somebody started giving it loads without letting me answer then I wouldn't be that inclined to take them seriously and debate with them. It is like when the club has a press conference and people just start shouting rather than asking.

Of course there are people failing but if you watch he goes day to day with his new issues and agenda, one day it will be test numbers and the next something else. The same as one day it was people going to the pub, the next it was people going for walks etc.

Looking at his social media he went into overdrive about people going for a pint but no mention about people on the bridge, what did he say about them?

Anyone else noticed people driving like wankers because the roads are quieter? Had two pass me on my way to work on Monday. They were racing on the M1 and doing at least 120mph and then last night I was coming back from my evening bike ride and an Audi s4( surprise surprise) came racing round the ambulance only entrance the wrong way at the hospital sliding as he went and very nearly hitting 2 parked vehicles and me in the process.

What I really wish is that they’d have scientifically or medically minded people asking such questions as people like Kuenssberg are just out for ‘going viral’ if you’ll pardon the pun

What's really disturbing is those (and the quantity) willingly standing with him in this venture.
It's easy to see how Hitler turned Germany into a mental 'State’
The technique is the same.
sacked loads who weren't total Yes "men" then savaged them in the media. Fauci will be gone as soon as Trump gets the chance.

The idea that we can’t be told what the exit strategy is because we might break it is pure nonsense.

Business needs to be able to plan. This is Brexit all over again with the government coming out with some half arsed excuse as to why they haven’t done any forward planning and their supporters lapping it up. Before it was “we don’t want to give the plan away” now it’s “you plebs can’t be trusted”.

At the moment you’ve got business owners I know playing guessing games on the future of their livelihood based of rumours in newspapers. Should my barber plan to be out of work for another six months? Is his one of the first or last businesses to reopen? Same for social club owners, restauranteers, teachers, etc.

You don’t need dates but some idea of order and trigger points allows people to plan.

they showed the pictures from Westminster bridge last week and he was saying it was ridiculous that they're there clapping for the NHS but risking getting ill and putting more pressure on the service etc. Cressida Dick was there FFS!
To be fair, he's been consistent on calling out anybody ignoring the guidelines.

But you talk about agendas, why are people posting pictures of Westminster bridge from last week and claiming they were from last night?

To be honest, I just searched Westminster bridge and used them and lots were from last night but the one with Dick in was from the week before (when we were still in lockdown and social distancing).

The whole 8PM on a Thursday thing is an invite to act like a dickhead and claim it's supporting the NHS. It's like when we had people acting like dickheads at football matches and claiming it is SISU's fault.

I've just gone off his social media about that one as he was doing tweet after tweet about people going to the pub but no mention of the bridge. Same as when everybody was killing OAPS by going to the pub but no mention of people queing up at ASDA for hours. He may have mentioned it since but he wasn't at the time.

Some of his supporters don’t even listen to a word he says just believe it verbatim. I don’t know if you heard his speech earlier in the year on renewable energy/windmills (Michael Spicer does a very amusing voiceover to it) but people were cheering to agree with the utter nonsense he was spewing out.

Yep....some proper Grade A arseholes driving at obscence speeds....some c**t in a range rover sport bombed passed me as I was cycling home from work yesterday.....must have easily been doing 60 maybe even 70 in a 30 zone & his wing mirror missed my elbow by about 5 cm.....I was shaking with fear, adrenaline & rage....I don't think he/she even seen me....the prick.

And no one has become poorly?
Not those of us that have continued to work at least. All jobs that take 2 people within 6' have stopped. And a lot of us are working so many hours to make up for those not allowed at work that we sleep and rest most of the time we are not at work. Another 72 hour week for me this week. But am happy to do so as I live alone and can't go anywhere when not at work.

The rules are not virtually the same at all and are much stricter here and in Spain, and that is not taking enforecement into account.
I've had that disagreement with several people.

You have more restrictions than France. France has more restrictions than the UK. It is as though ours is designed to keep a steady flow of people getting the virus so not to overwhelm the NHS but also to eventually get enough people that have had it.

I think if the numbers go back up then they’ll put the date back. The weather is mid 20s now so by then most bars will be outdoors seating.
That was my thought. But you would have thought they might have said with outside seating facilities only to start.

The last thing Italy needs is a spike in numbers. Everyone will be desperate for somewhere to go that places will be packed.

Will be interesting to see how that affects things. No news on schools?
I don't think so, but they finish at the start of June, so I presume they won't reopen until September.
Lessons have been taught online and exams are going to be done online as well.
