We can stop them, international pressure will lead to a ceasefire and then an international force to maintain order and funding to help the non terrorist palestinian authorities such as Fatah build infrastructure with a view to implementing a 2 state solution
I am not sure what international pressure would stop Israel to be honest. I think they are set on this course of action regardless, and anyway there is no way the West will try to stop them.

Interestingly it appears that Israel has held off ( so far) from launching the all out land assault that was thought to be imminent.

So maybe international pressure is making them rethink.

Also the USA has sent a carrier task force to the area, that maybe to assure Israel that Iran won't enter the equation (I'm guessing here) but this may (?) De-escalate things.

Be interesting to see if things scale back a bit now.
I hope you are right that they are having second thoughts but doubt it. I suspect they know it is a very dangerous mission and they will themselves incur major losses so they are being cautious before going in.

Just seen a video from Ireland with people with flags in a supermarket demanding a boycott of things.

Then chanting "we are all palistinions" even forcing their kids to.

It's cult like.

Edit: think it's an old video.
In Northern Ireland amongst republicans there’s been sympathy with Gaza especially for decades. It’s not unusual in the north to pass a catholic area and see a Free Gaza sign. They see a similarity between themselves being occupied and Gaza being occupied.

Threaten a ban on the sales of arms and technical assistance on arms to them. That would soon buck their ideas up.

Some of the scenes starting to come out of Gaza are horrific. The hospitals especially. Also starting to see an exodus of people taking all they carry. Very reminiscent of WW2.

Interesting that Lloyd Austin has gone to Israel and talking about the right to defend itself but also uphold the laws of war

It's not going to happen quickly enough. We have entrenched views in the West in support of Israel, hence Shapps' interview this morning.

Shapps is an idiot

The US SOD has just been talking about having to respect the laws or war while in Israel so the west isn't going to let Israel do whatever they want

Fears war could begin on new front - as Hezbollah says it's ready to join Hamas
There are real fears a new front could open up in the war if Hezbollah decides to get involved and attack Israel in support of its Palestinian allies.

And just now, Hezbollah's deputy leader said they were "fully prepared" to join Hamas in the war against Israel - telling a rally in the suburbs of Beirut they will intervene "when the time comes".

I agree. Certainly not with the government we have. I have no doubt they see the events of the last week as a gift. As you said, hence Shapps interview this morning.

Excellent opportunity for their culture wars and Islamophobia and Jeremy Hunt has just signalled to energy firms that they have another opportunity to increase profits.

What is equally worrying is the lack of sense coming from the Opposition bench.

2 supposed legal experts that don’t seem to be able to identify what is or isn’t a war crime.
Agreed but they are not in power so it really doesn't matter. If Starmer came out and called for restraint it have make no impact on what Israel does.

What's their alternative?

They can hardly green light the actions of a terrorist outfit like Hamas can they. And let's not forget the first priority of any government is to protect its people.

There's an argument that the response was not proportionate, or lead to more suffering of innocent people, but that argument doesn't stand up well when you consider Hamas have fired 150 missiles into Israel in the last 24 hrs.

And yet the death toll is heavy in Israel’s “favour”.

Why has it got to be black and white? Hamas are scum, the Israeli government has the capacity to not be so scummy and chooses not to.

But realistically Israel isn't going to stop the bombardment until the incoming rockets from Hamas stop. (I'm not saying that's right, I'm just pointing it out)

The death toll on either side doesn't seem to count unfortunately.

Once the rockets stop falling on Israel, the world will wait to see what the IDF do.

Turkey is openly speaking out against the evacuation order and the Dutch seem to be trying to work with the Jordanians on an aid plan
