Is that the best you 2 can do?

Once all countries give away their right to decide it might as well be one country.

One federal state. Schultz said the EU should not be involved in local or national issues. A bit like Washington. The countries keep local and national rights. The European relevant things get dealt with by MEPs - ELECTED - by the citizens of Europe.

That sounds just like a dictatorship to me!!

There is a massive difference between a federal government that rules one country and a federal government that rules 27 countries.

The system that Schultz wants is the same or similar to that of Germany. The system is the same whether 27, 50 or 16 states ( as in Germany).

Is this really what all of this is based upon?!! Hahahaha!!

Schulz isn’t even in the EU or governing Germany and CDU has other priorities. But, the Express is having a hay day, so a EU dictatorship with an EU army will be happening any day soon. Luckily the plucky Brits saw this coming a long while ago.... #thank god we’re leaving. Saved by Johnson, Gove, Davis and co..

I said turning into a dictatorship. And this goes to show that I could well be 100% right after taking abuse off you and others for saying so. That must be why some of you are having a priblem admitting what is going on.

Nothing is going on.

At last you have got his name right.

Would you like to tell everyone who Schulz is?

He was head of the EU parliament until he left it earlier this year to go into politics in his own country...Germany. I wonder why he did so.

The Express? Are you ignoring the rest of the news outlets?

Most of us already know who is he.

So a person who is not in power is going to drastically change the EU despite the fact that his fellow citizens and most of the citizens across the EU are against it?

And some secret and mysterious figures from a country called the EU are going to force it through?

Righto

Ah so it is true now?

Mart tries to say it is what Merkel wants but she doesn't have the time.

No. Not true. You said that. I said she was against it, but had not slammed it. She and her party had other priorities. I named immigration as one of them.

He was head of the parliament twice. I don’t know whether he can run a third time. I think he couldn’t which is why he came back. He came straight back to be party leader, which would also explain why he came home. Hope I answered your question. You could of course check that with the Express book of anti German conspiracy theories.

Can someone explain to me how Schultz, who isn't even in power in his own country, can dictate to the whole of Europe and rewrite the rules to suit himself?

Because he’s German and you can see Martcov is literally drooling at the prospect

No. Being German doesn’t answer Dave‘s question and shows your racist teint. If you want to read about skullduggery and the stupidity of bragging about it, read this:

David Davis has rushed to repair damage caused by his comments about the breakthrough Brexit deal not being legally binding after Brussels politicians warned he was “undermining trust” in the negotiating process.

European Parliament Brexit chief Guy Verhofstadt lashed out at the Brexit Secretary on Tuesday and revealed the body would toughen up its red lines on Brexit after Mr Davis said the joint text, agreed only on Friday, was “much more a statement of intent than it was a legally enforceable thing”.

Mr Davis found himself telephoning Mr Verhofstadt to smooth things over after two European Parliament amendments, signed by the leaders of every non-eurosceptic political group in the house, were proposed in response to his comments.

Thick as mince ... as the say in the UK.

Making a deal with the intent of breaking it is one thing, if you are a wanker, but bragging about it to the party and media is really stupid. Won’t help our negotiating at all.

How about the last paragraph?

Mr Schulz helped inflict a serious defeat in 2014 on Ms Merkel, when he and Jean-Claude Juncker, former Luxembourg prime minister, secured public backing to share two top EU posts, with Mr Juncker becoming European Commission president and Mr Schulz heading the parliament. Ms Merkel wanted member states to control the appointments and to block Mr Juncker’s ascent.

And how similar is he to Juncker with them holding two of the top 5 jobs in the EU?

And he wants the citizens of the EU to fear the European parliament

Seem to be very close. But what happened to the plan to keep Schulz in the EU?

There is also something to do with expenses or attendance allowance with Schulz.

But, apart from that.... the idea of a federal government with countries taking care of local and national issues is not a bad one.

Your article explains why Merkel will not allow his vision to go forward on a personal level.

So nothing is going to happen in the short to medium term. Which is what I keep telling you.

If you think that „they“ are Juncker and Schulz, then Schulz has gone and Juncker won’t be standing again.

Also, Merkel is the good guy in the Spiegel story. Which dashes one conspiracy theory of yours.

The scandals seemed to have died away and Schulz was welcomed as the messiah by the SPD. Would like to know what happened there. Some of his scandals like getting people jobs and gravy training it apply to many others. Not a justification, but that certainly needs to be sorted out.

But, he did also criticise the European Council and wanted it to be more open. Thus his second chamber idea. Which would be an improvement.

Whilst he is obviously not a decent guy, his vision is something to look into.

But it has no chance in the near future and can’t happen without widespread support throughout Europe. The Bild poll was 30% in Germany in favour.

Just like it seems to have gone away for Juncker. Isn't it strange how they had 2 of the top 5 jobs in the EU.

The people didn't vote for him. So why is that?

He has his party behind him. And as we all have agreed most MP's will do anything for power.

He left his high position in the EU to do what he needs back in Germany. Juncker and Schulz have been close for many years. I suppose he can always go back to the EU when he has got what they want.

8 years max to change how the EU is run? With the speed this has taken off I expect it to speed along once we are gone.

And just like with Brexit we don't know if it will be good or bad overall. But there will be good and bad in both.

I have never said Merkel is bad. Or would you like to point it out?

I don’t know why the people didn’t vote for him. He was beating Merkel in the polls at the beginning. Even Farage was plugging the fact that Merkel was behind her opponent ( didn’t say the name of the opponent).

I never understood the Messiah bit. I liked Sigmar Gabriel. I have seen him speaking live and he comes across as a nicer person than Schulz. But the SPD let him fall and went almost 100% for Schulz. I didn’t understand that and I didn’t understand the blanket silence on his EU scandals. I think he paid some money back for claiming a daily allowance even when he wasn’t there.

You said you wonder why Merkel favours majority voting.... with the implication she was on his side.

We don’t know much about what Merkel really thinks about the whole thing. She is not knocking him too much because she needs his support- at the moment.

What has taken off?

Nothing as far as I can see.

Look at the position he left to go back to politics in Germany. Juncker and himself have helped each other out. They held two out of the top 5 jobs in the EU. He wants what Juncker wants. They are not alone in wanting it.

That is just for starters. But of course it will be rubbiahed by some on here. Just like when I said they would find a way of pushing things through. Well here it is.
