What the hell is wrong with these people? His personal friend and his idol?
A man who suppresses his own people, who rigs elections so he can't lose, who arrests those for even silent protest, who has his opponents either killed or imprisoned, who breaks international law and uses banned weapons and who deliberately targets civilians in times of war?
That personal friend and idol?
It was him that thought it was a good idea to ask - stupid stupid non leaderhe didn’t choose to the public did
he didn’t choose to the Kremlin did
Watching world war 2 in colour
Lots of similarities and major differences.
The support of the Ukraine army being one and the bravery of their army and population another
What’s it called? In isolation and feeling rotten so time on my handsThe "Greatest" Events one on Netflix?
Very good series. The penultimate episode at Buchenwald is horrifying.

I want to watch it but the "colourised" footage is putting me off-is there a lot of it? I always get bugged by having seen some of the footage before in B&W and imagined it looking totally different to them in colour, resulting in me shouting "they don't know!" and my partner telling me to calm down and be quiet. The "Greatest" Events one on Netflix?

The debate becomes it was ok because they murdered hundreds of thousands in the camps after. Well uh no it wasn’t ok it was an act of inhumanityThe inhumanity in war is just awful. The Dresden programme shows just what war does to people. Dresden was an awful war crime but we won so no one was punished
Pretty much Putin's strategy at the momentan awful war crime but we won so no one was punished
Having said that you are right the buechenwald episode is beyond comprehension that a great Christian civilised nation can be turned into the most evil group of bastards shows what humans are capable of. Kindness might be the most revolutionary activity humans will ever knowThe debate becomes it was ok because they murdered hundreds of thousands in the camps after. And I’m pretty certain morally the atomic bombing was as wrong as the holocaust
Nagasaki was unnecessary and only possible as Americans felt the Japanese were less than them as a race I mean. What was the utilitarian argument ?I honestly don’t know how you would argue this. At least there was a utilitarian argument to justify the atomic bombings.

Many are. What is it in any case? I just think having seen it again that USA wouldn’t have dreamt of doing what they did to the Japanese to the Germans and it was probably down to them thinking of them as somehow subhuman. I’m also pretty convinced now that any nation is capable of any and all measures of evil. War is just shitits a really stupid argument to make

Maybe that argument can be made for the first bomb. Once that goes off Japan would have surrendered anyway. The second was overkill.you really aren’t very clued up on WW2 are you. Even that dribbling converted leftie Matthew Paris oddly in an article in The Times yesterday said the nuclear bombs were necessary and ultimately justified by what came from the consequence. He was comparing it to Putin which I found a bit odd but I guess he was making a point about a future if Russia gets defeated
That’s what I think too. Not only is history written by the victor but so is the morality of how the fight was foughtMaybe that argument can be made for the first bomb. Once that goes off Japan would have surrendered anyway. The second was overkill.
Also, as has been pointed out, it all depends on the victors. Let's say the Japanese/Germans etc had rallied and won the war - do you not think the Amercian's would've been in front of a war crimes trial? Or would it then have been justified for America dropping even more nuclear bombs? If Japan ever became the dominant force in world politics you can bet they'd be calling for them to be classified historically as war crimes.
Let's get really hypothetical and say Russia and Putin went on to not only win this war but go on to gain absolute control. Who will they be putting in the dock as the 'bad guys'? Now let's say Russia gets trounced - Putin could be tried as a war criminal. China should be in court of more human rights violations that could in some cases be called genocide, but are far more likely in the future to be the ones having huge influence over the direction of 'human rights'.
The overriding factor about the perception of the nuclear bombs was who won.
