The man possibly caught Covid 19 by shaking hands with people who have Covid 19 when his own official advice was social distancing and then at the very press conference we were being told not to visit our mothers on mothers day he was talking about hoping to see his mother on Mother’s Day.

I think the main thing behind that is privilege. People like him are used to being able to flout the rules normal people can't because they think they don't apply to them, just the working classes, so he doesn't see it as an error. We've seen a fair few people giving out advice and then flouting it themselves.

Take that Merkel video. It's clear and makes the point. But to many it'll be dull and they'll just mentally switch off, while others will say it comes across as a bit condescending.

But just what most Germans see as normal.

They wouldn't have just listened to Boris constantly saying 'get Brexit done'. They would want to know why they should get Brexit done. They would have wanted all the details.

The worse thing is if we pull out of the aftermath of the virus and do OK Boris might be seen as some kind of hero.

I just hope Starmer is up to showing Boris for what he is. And that the Labour infighting stops. Get both and we should get a Labour government. Miss one and we won't.

Yep. Why I wish I'd always be around so I can see what history makes of it. To be around in a century or two and see the documentaries on our times and what those people think of us (I reckon capable of great ingenuity but also exceptionally stupid as we knew about the stuff we were doing wrong and just carried on as we were and had a massive obsession with money that only exists on paper). Georgians and Victorians considered themselves very smart but we look back and think how stupid some of the things they did and believed in were.

I'd especially love to see what they make of Trump.

People changed their minds after the result. But it was the way some ranted about the result. And it is MP's I am talking about. Saying out loud they wanted to ignore the electorate.

Then you had the delay from Labour on what they would do. Votes were lost. Then by the time Labour came out with their strategy the voting public just wanted it over whatever. Played into the hands of Boris.

A bit generalistic but on the whole yes Germans probably would want a better explanation than over here. Could be a hangover from having the Nazi's voted in - get the details rather than soundbites and getting caught up in the personality and propaganda.

But that's not to say Germany doesn't have those that will just blindly follow a rhetoric that suits their own beliefs.

One of the main tenets of right sided thinking is to never, ever admit fault or mistake. Never say sorry. It can be used as a stick to beat you with and seen as a sign of weakness. If you don't admit mistakes or spin it even if it seems pretty obvious you've fucked up you make people find clear evidence of your fault and that's much harder and you can just carry on.

It's one of the many things G has taken on from that book of thinking.

Ah yes, she's the one that when Boris came out of ICU she tweeted "the country can breathe again", on the day when we passed 10,000 people who had stopped breathing permanently. Great way with words that one.

Taking the PM out of the question for a moment- educate me here. Is this the worst collection of ministers ('cabinet' I guess) of all time? Who could possibly have been worse than Hancock, Patel, Raab etc? They just seem to be be astoundingly unfit to be running the country. The one thing they all seem to lack is any kind of empathy- when you have a situation where Piers bloody Morgan is easily dissecting them every day on national TV you surely know you have a major problem with your competence levels? I have very limited knowledge here but I would guess that the opposition at the last election was up there with the most ineffective as well- maybe Howard, Hague & IDS would push them though- I don't know. This country seems completely unable to find 'leadership'.

I put Piers Morgan on the same level as Katie Hopkins. They chat shite most of the time as they make a living by being controversial. But sometimes they are spot on as they say what most people are too scared to say.

It's not solely the right that do it. Usually anyone in power will at some point have followed that method regardless of political leaning. But on the whole right wing tend to be hold more powerful positions. I reckon this failure to admit mistakes is a large part of it.

He didn't believe in brexit but decided to try and be the face of the 'leave' campaign, shat himself and ran away when they won, bided his time and stuck the knife into everyone to get his ambition of being PM then did exactly the same as the people he screwed over, filled the cabinet with no-marks and inept failures, ran away again again after the election & went on lots of holidays, completely failed the country with his coronavirus response and is now in hiding again- all the while taking the UK to its most divided state in generations with everybody hating each other, eugenics experts calling the shots and people like Hancock, Patel and Raab running the show by lying to the country on a daily basis. I saw this morning we are 'importing' hundreds of Eastern Europeans to work on farms- really taking back control.

He is an utter, unqualified, dangerous disaster and when we look back in 20/30 yrs it will be obvious just how shit and catastrophic the 'Johnson era' was.

Yes but "stupid"- define that? Emotional Intelligence is just as important as IQ especially in positions of leadership, and the government are totally devoid of it. 'Intelligence' is a very big word to apply to someone, if it was that easy then Stephen Hawking should have been PM.

Maybe not these days, but it has spread because it has been effective for the right in the past. Agree with this SBD but think it’s common across politics. I can never understand how people don’t want to admit theyre wrong and/or say sorry. 9 out of 10 people would respect individuals more for it and probably more likely to trust/support them in future

I'm going to amend my view- has there ever been a government with such a lack of Emotional Intelligence (EQ)? Very basic definition- knowing what emotion to use & how to conduct oneself at any particular time in order to convey leadership, knowledge & assurance no matter what actual knowledge might be.

One thing I'd say about Boris- he has high EQ. He patently knows very little, but he has the ability to engage people and get them on side. Not all, but big swathes want this guy to talk to them.

He's good at rote learning. He isn't stupid of course but the reality probably is that he doesn't really care. He isn't interested in detail. This is the problem with our increasing move towards a presidential form of a Prime Minister.

I did Latin and Greek at school, in the intervening 25 yrs I've yet to find any practical use for what I learned- let alone thinking it might qualify me to become Prime Minister. As for doing it university, thats not intelligence, thats rote learning loads of things that you will never, ever have any real use for.
