Well for starters the USA has got quite a lot of criticism on here and rightly so seeing as they're the worst on the planet. In the other cases, it's probably because we're British so have focused on what goes on in this country lest it go even more on a tangent than it already has. I reject the idea though that it's all about hitting the Tories-they're in charge and have fucked up. We could discuss Turkey sending infected refugees across the Greek border but it's probably of much less interest because it won't affect anyone here.

I'm not saying you're wrong with what you have said, but the US generally gets a lot of criticism anyway because of Trump.

Again though, I'm talking mainly about world news. We are run by buffoons but my God don't people want to hammer it home.

I have a daughter working as a carer who was struggling to get PPE, their are people on here with relatives who work for the NHS, people with young kids that are being returned to return to s to, Why would we be more concerned with What is going on in Sweden or Germany?

Again, I'm not arguing about anyone's comments about the UK. I agree with a lot of them.

I just personally feel like on the world stage people like the hammer us. I wouldn't mind as the UK is going downhill in my view, but other countries get away with similar stuff as our sins.

I'm generally a bit fed up of the UK myself but I really feel (especially as someone that travels a hell of a lot normally) that a lot of people do like to kick us in.

Well that's because as a country we don't have a particularly glamorous history, with some noteworthy exceptions. I'd say more but I'll probably be called sneering or condescending by the same types who create the bad image you're unhappy about.

The FT modelling, which is a cautious estimate so if anything likely to be lower than the true number, put excess deaths currently at 63,600 so I think we're way past what anyone could say was acceptable or a good outcome.

No, I said across the world the UK gets worse press than Sweden on this.

Compare that with Sweden, and whilst I have seen critical articles, it is nowhere near on the scale than what we have had.

I've seen plenty of criticism of Swedens stance so its definitely out there. We're always going to see more about the UK as that is what is more likely to be discussed given it directly impacts us.

The other thing is compare what is being criticised. Sweden are being questioned on their approach but not how they are relaying their message to the population or implementing their approach. Here its not just questions about the approach being taken its how badly they are putting the information across (on multiple occasions the government have been shown to be misleading the public) and how badly they are implementing it.

I thought they might be a little bit worse as it was around now I expected the VE day celebrations to start showing in the figures. More concerned over what it will be like at the start of June as the lockdown easing starts to show.

That's true but you don't send kids back to school when the infection rate is nowhere near under control, and there are nothing in place to stop a second wave at all.

Probably because Sweden is up front and very clearly about its strategy. The U.K. should be no where near as bad as it is considering that our government are claiming lockdown etc. That’s why the U.K. is getting scrutinised in the world press.

I think there probably should be more focus on Sweden's approach (which seems to have been a terrible choice and one we seemed very keen to do something similar to early on).

Our approach has changed depending on which way the wind is blowing, has been extremely confusing and unclear, lacking proper leadership because Johnson cares about being popular (mainly because it's the only thing he has going for him) but worse of all is the attempts to cover up or lie about what has been happening. Tests, PPE, care homes etc. They've set it up to push the blame onto the medical/science team saying "we were following their advice" when it seems we weren't or at the very least were arguing about it so it got delayed costing us precious time. Then the change of 'stay at home' so it could be pushed onto the public failing to use 'common sense' if infections rise.

The one thing we seem to have learnt is that they're the masters of fucking up and making sure someone else takes the fall.

The NHS smartphone app for tracking people who have been in contact with Covid-19 patients will not be ready for 1 June, when the next stage of the government’s relaxation of lockdown is due to begin, Downing Street has confirmed.

Speaking late on Tuesday, junior health minister, Lord Bethell, indicated that the government was no longer trying to get the app: “We have therefore changed the emphasis of our communications and plans to put human-contact tracing at the beginning of our plans and to regard the app as something that will come later in support,” he said.

Asked whether Lord Bethell’s comments were correct, Mr Johnson’s spokesperson told a Westminster virtual media briefing: “I wouldn’t disagree with that. I think that’s straightforward.”
