Talking to Derby fan on Twitter. They’re being charged £45 for Man Utd away. Same for the home fans. The FA should set a cap as well as a minimum. Can’t see many less off families in Moss Side taking up that offer.

Why is it a reasonable theory though? That's what I don't get.

It's a bit of an issue with things like social media etc as things like that spread like wildfire to the point that expect it to be a lower price and get angry when it's not.

I don't think there's a massive issue with CCFC pricing in particular, it's a massive chunk of our revenue. I do think it's a bigger issue with English football as a whole though to allow clubs like us to rely so much on it while the Premier League could do without ticket revenue tomorrow and players earning multiple times what we turn over.

There are two strains of thought. One is of a fan, and the other is as the owner (who we all know wear blinkers). I think many people who fit into the former category would have thought that more than anything, this game would be a great opportunity to win some of the fans back, and fill up the stadium in direct opposition flow to the ever dwindling crowds. It isn't a league game so it's an extra opportunity.

By charging the same prices which have kept people away all season, it's a double negative. 1) Because it shows the owners don't have the eye to spot an opportunity like this, proving to some people that once again they don't care. 2) Because, regardless of opponent, people haven't been prepared to pay that money for a league game this year.

You might say that the prices are just excuses, but I feel like you will still be saying that in 5 or 10 years time when it's just you at the Ricoh with the Mad Hatters and Dale who happened to drop by after an impromptu trip to the casino.

It goes back to my last point. A few years ago (maybe in the Championship) there would have been a fair amount of excitement for this game, now there isn't so much. So many people have had enough with the club and need as much incentive as possible to go. They are not shallow, they've just been chewed up and spat back out again by a club they have in most probability poured a lot of money into with jack all in return. I know you pay good money and you go and watch, so you expect everyone else to be the same, but that isn't the case. If it is an English Football problem, then it is also certainly a Coventry City problem. Especially as we are probably one of the most undesirable teams to support in the country...

The thing is though, you are assuming it is Joy and Dermot who are sat there thinking up ticket prices as a reason to then moan at the club about it. This shows that a big chunk of our fans also have blinkers, people going on about Liverpool pricing for starters as if it is somehow related to us in any way.

How many people upset with the pricing had any intention of going at all anyway? It's the equivalent of me moaning about the pricing of Turkey's this year in Waitrose when I had no intention of going there or buying one. What's the point in whinging about the matchday cost a month in advance? Get them now and save a bit of money. There was a guy outraged on social media because when he takes the kids to football it's too expensive because he has to buy them a McDonalds etc to go with it. There's a simple answer to that if you really want to take them.

I don't expect everybody to go, just maybe cut out the fake outrage if they weren't going to bother anyway and try and at least get a bit of reality that we are a League 2 club scraping by for money. People demanding a ticket decrease, how many would be back for the next game when it's full price again?

£22 isn't really that bad. How many people upset with that were at the previous 2 rounds saying how it was a great price?

£22 is not a massive amount and you get to see a traditional lower league at home against a premier league team. A somewhat local ish team also who will bring a few. £22 for them will be fairly cheap I would of thought. £22 if drawn to Birmingham or villa would be a bargain to many and they are a league lower.

We all know the biggest revenue for the club is ticket money and it’s no shock and why should it be reduced in a way? People have a choice.

I’m more shocked there isn’t an offer for wycombe just before Christmas on a cold Friday night. That is more a missed trick imo.

People would pay £30 against a Man Utd.
People would pay £22 against Villa who are league lower than Stoke.
It’s all about supply and demand and getting your pricing structure right.
Stoke are not Villa (hated local rivals). They do not have 1/4 of the pull of Man Utd.
So it comes back to how much can you lower the price to entice a crowd but still make a profit.
Maybe £22 is that limit due to costs, however it isn’t the right figure to encourage a big crowd against stoke.
I think £15 would have done that, but maybe then the extra costs outweigh the profit.
Unfortunately the style of football isn’t very entertaining this season. I know a few season tickets holders who have choosen to do other things on the odd Saturday. That normally there is no way they could make it due to already having a season ticket.
People love to think fans will just turn up no matter what because they love the club. However for the majority that’s not how the real world works. People still want to feel they are getting some kind of value for money as well.

Oh dear.

You do realise the price has to be agreed by both sides do you and that we would be only receiving £8 a ticket if we charged £15 (which wouldn’t be agreed)?

How many away fans will not go for the different price - answer is none.

I thought it was 45% after costs etc? More like £5-6.

Oh we asked stoke for a lower price and they said no?
Fair enough, sorry where is that written down again? I know you like your facts and everything.
Oh and I was actually pointing out that you have to get the balance and maybe £22 was the cheapest the club could do due to costs.
You are right on one thing your ‘oh dear’ comment

As I've said before, there is some false outrage, and there are people who go and buy food, drink and don't really think about things logically like that. Many people however are not like that. Certainly I would have liked to go if I thought it was better value, and I guarantee there are thousands like me.

You don't have to listen to me, but as someone on the other side of the fence, I think it should be noted that the general cost of football, played along with by the club is not pulling anyone back. Our attendances will continue to dwindle and not all of those people who are stopping to go are just making excuses. It might not be Joy making the prices, but the hierarchy at the club do, and they have got it consistently wrong this year.

As I've said, a lot more people than you think are moaning about the prices of Turkey's at Waitrose and were thinking of getting one. The problem is, they have been slinging their money at Waitrose for such a long time and are now getting served up Morrisons grub. Sadly, they are also being shouted down by the much louder, but smaller group of shoppers who are stood by the trolley park, refusing to insert their £1 and shouting 'Not One Penny More'.

Even at £22, that's still only about £10 to the club for every paying adult before any costs. When you look at it like that it's understandable.

No I do listen to you because you aren't being a dick about it ;)

At the end of the day it's a football match, so you can't predict beforehand how it is going to be and it's a bit of a gamble. We could take a spanking and come back thinking how bad it was, we could well get last gasp equaliser to earn an away trip for a replay (which I can guarantee people who are shouting the most about it now will want tickets for). We might even get a winner and then it will have been great. It's the gamble you take when it's a sporting event where you care about the outcome.

The thing is though, we are paying the going price for lower league football. In my view I support a lower league team and it's not specific to us, if every other club charged a fiver every week and we charged £20 then questions would be asked and that's where it becomes a different story. Of course football needs to be sorted from top to bottom in general in this country.

There have been people moaning about £22 who have said they have no intention of going to home games previously, you can see people waiting for something to jump on. and like you say they shout the loudest.

When I was keen as mustard and bought all the city tops and went to every home game plus the odd away game I was paying stupid money every week and you know what?
Looking back I never questioned the price just paid up in blind loyalty.
Some fans continue to do the same and fair play to them.

Yes it probably is especially when we don’t know what the actual costs are.
They need to know what price would bring in an extra couple of thousand fans with costing us anything.
That would be a very hard thing to get right.
Even if we don’t make s profit but don’t make a loss, however get some more fans in that’s what you want.
Unfortunately Stoke are not a big lure and our brand of football at the moment lacks entertainment.
So they are probably right to get £22 each out of the die hards from both clubs

Rule of thumb for me was always that cup tickets should always be less money than league tickets (with the only exception out there being the Champions League).

To cut out all the bullshit about football economics like others are going into, I agree it’s a wasted opportunity by the club. But we’ve known for years from their pricing strategies that they would rather have less people in the stadium paying more money!

I didn’t like the statement either from the club, saying it was a mutual decision with stoke.. I’m sure with their hundreds of millions of TV money, stoke insisted on us keeping the £2 extra on the day charge!

You would pay £30k for a ten year old Aston Martin so you would pay £30k for a ten year old Renault Clio right???? Ridiculous argument from people like Nick that say ‘well’ you would pay £22/£24 for Arsenal or Man Utd at home.

How is that in any way the same? If that's the case surely you are an Arsenal or man utd fan rather than ccfc? If you just want to watch Arsenal or man utd they play plenty of games you can go and see.

I'm going off market prices from checking on auto trader and we buy any car for an idea.

On the basis of all factors to take into consideration, what's a reasonable attendance going to be like....14k?

I am lost as to what people want, even though I'd have liked a Liverpool, Man City or Chelsea and when Stoke were drawn I'd never have thought I wouldn't go.

Trying to get an idea, for people to go it has to either be a massive top level club or really cheap even though it's still a Premier League club even though the club only get 45% of the tickets anyway which is pretty much the club's main income? I'd bet good money on a percentage of the same people moaning that we don't sign players for unrealistic fees, wages etc etc too.
I don't have a problem with the price. Many on here don't have a problem with the price. But that isn't the full story.

It is the time of year that many struggle financially. No pay days since before Xmas. People will look at the price and not even think about it. I would have liked to have seen it just under the £20 mark for the cheapest tickets. Just under a psychological barrier. Less than £20 to watch us against a Prem side. And with the way the ticket money is shared it would only lose us just over a quid per ticket sold against the full price but gained us about £9 for every extra ticket sold.

You never know. A decent crowd, players upping their game hoping to get noticed and with a bit of luck we could win. It looks like they will sell what they are allowed. But it could end up like an away game.

But you can have fun on an away day whatever the result.....
Are they not at home worrying about money after Christmas or is that just for home games? ;)

It's to much for a home game, surely one of the furthest games away of the season and beer etc is more of an issue then £2?

Because I have been comparing it to the other clubs before / after costs through the thread and matchday costs. There is also delivery if people want them delivered.

To suggest that if a deal where if you have to get ten mates to come with you and you get a cheaper ticket as proof that if tickets were cheaper more people wouldn’t come is crazy.
If tickets are cheaper more people will come that’s a fact of life.
However how much cheaper is the important factor and also what are they paying for.
Unfortunately with the product Cov are putting on the pitch at the moment I think tickets would need to be £10 a head before you would see it add a few thousand on the gate.

Well I've just sorted out tickets for our group of 4 ST holders

I know the football isn't up to much but I want to support them while the club is still here and I'm still fit enough to go. Can't take either of those conditions for granted going forward.

If I didn't go because I thought the football wasn't good enough then whether it was £22 or £10 wouldn't make any difference to me.
People have said they can't give tickets away so why would people refusing a free ticket pay £10 rather than £22.

They were £10 against Forest Green weren’t they?
