You have to assume that’s JP down the 5th in the pecking order.

He needs to develop in the U23s, it’s no good giving him 15-20m here and there, or worse, not getting any game time.

Happy with this signing. I have faith that Robins and Widdrington have given the risks of signing a potential 'trouble-maker' considerable thought and have decided it's a risk they can manage.

I can see Ponticelli having a month on loan at Tamworth and seeing how that goes and how we're doing which could be extended to the end of the season.

I agree. Now another striker has been brought in Robins needs to manage Ponticelli accordingly. He's doing fantastically well in the U23's, but he needs to broaden his horizons and not simply rest on his laurels.

A loan move to a local National League side would be the right move for him at this moment in his career and I think he'd do well. Then come summer he can be integrated back into the squad during pre-season with that experience under his belt.

Genuine question: why can’t you sack footballers?

Surely their contract states an expected level of work like anyone else’s. If I just went to my boss “I hate it here and I refuse to contribute but I’m sticking around for another year or two and expect to get paid” he’d laugh me off site.

Is it a legal thing or do the PFA get involved or what? Is it to stop players quitting halfway through their contract? What?

I reckon the PFA would go all out about it.

You don't hear about many being sacked, usually it is when they have been linked with criminal activity rather than just being dicks.

From my knowledge you can only sack them if there's an active breach of contract. The PFA probably have checks and balances in place to ensure that players can't simply be sacked for 'not playing' to protect the players themselves - otherwise there'd be hundreds of players out of work at any given time.

Yeah there's a code and guidelines which a club would have to work under...

Imagine the sackings you could have. Alan Sugars hand appears on the scoreboard, "your fired!!"

Lee Burge would be a jittery mess weekly in fear of a costly blunder and the long walk off the pitch to the sound of hisses and boos with the finger pointing down

JCH has not committed any crime, if his attitude is sorted then he can be a good acquisition. We've had a number of worse cases play for us who were convicted, so need to give the guy a chance - Lee Hughes, Mick Quinn, Noel Whelan, Marlon King, Sandy Robertson, Julian Darby, Kevin Kyle & Michael McIndoe are the ones I can think of. I don't think we ever had Luke McCormick on our books, just from Cov. Any more for our jailbird XI? :)

Btw - mean to add that I included Julian Darby not for shagging Phil Neal, but for the crime of claiming under the false pretences of being a professional footballer.

Footballer on drugs charge

and Micky Quinn
Micky Quinn - Wikipedia

After scoring 34 goals in 80 Second Division games for Oldham, Quinn joined Portsmouth in March 1986, with manager Alan Ball paying £150,000 for Quinn's services in an attempt to push for promotion to the First Division, but Portsmouth just missed automatic promotion on the final day of the season - just as had happened the previous season. In April 1986, Quinn was found guilty of drink-driving and received a £100 fine, as well as a one-year driving ban for a similar offence committed in Liverpool during 1985. Quinn breached the driving ban twice later in 1986, and in January 1987 he was sentenced to 21 days in prison but was freed after serving 14 days.[4][5]

I think it's a bit harsh on the likes of Beavon to dismiss his contribution, he is a trier, just limited. He hasn't professed to be Harry Kane and I would suspect he is a mentor to the other players.
Yes Reid is a different proposition but he is entitled to stay whilst under contract and not many of us wouldn't do the same unless there was a better offer on the table.
JCH is not someone I am aware of and my expectations are fairly low but then they were with Doyle returning and I have to say he has shown that attitude just as important as talent. I hope JCH used the likes of Doyle as a mentor and Callum Wilson as a benchmark of what can be achieved and See the likes of Bayliss flourish and that he will want some of that!
